How do I scan my first document?

Tap the camera button at the bottom of the app. Point your phone at any flat document in good light — ClearChive will automatically detect the edges, capture a clean scan, and begin reading it. You'll see the result in your archive within a few seconds.

What types of documents can ClearChive read?

ClearChive works with printed documents: utility bills, insurance policies, tax returns, bank statements, receipts, medical letters, certificates, passports, and more. It reads the text content of each document, not just the file name, so you can search by anything written inside.

How is my data stored and kept secure?

Your documents are encrypted and stored on Hetzner's servers in Germany and Finland — European infrastructure, GDPR compliant. No advertising. No third-party access to your files. You can read our full Privacy Policy for details on how documents are processed.

Can I access my documents from a computer?

Yes. Log in at app.clearchive.com from any browser to browse, search, and download your archive. Everything you scan on your phone is available immediately on the web.

Can I share a document with a family member?

You can download any document and share it via email, messages, or any other app directly from ClearChive. Full family sharing features are on our roadmap.

How do I export or download my documents?

From the web portal at app.clearchive.com, you can download your entire archive as a ZIP file at any time — organised into folders by document type and year. Your documents are never locked in.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

Your archive remains accessible. You can download all your documents before or after cancelling. We do not delete your data immediately upon cancellation — see our Terms for the retention period.

The app named my document incorrectly. Can I fix it?

Yes. Tap the document in your archive, then tap the edit icon next to the file name or category. You can rename or recategorise any document at any time.
